The Thursday morning communion service will re-start on Thursday 7th October at 10am in the hall, on a monthly basis on the first Thursday of each month.

Harvest Thanksgiving will be held on Sunday 3rd October at 11.30am. After the service we will have a “bring and share” lunch in the hall, which will be followed by the traditional auction of harvest produce. All welcome.
This year the Vestry have decided that the proceeds from the auction will go towards necessary repairs to pointing and the church roof.
Nick Cox will be joining us in September as our Curate, while he continues his training in the South Ayrshire Team for the next three years. We extend a warm welcome to Nick and his wife, Karen.
Ordination in the Anglican Church is first to the order of Deacon, and then normally after about a year, as Priest. As a Deacon his liturgical role in the liturgy will be similar to that of a Eucharistic Assistant in that when he leads a Communion service, it will be with the Reserved Sacrament. Nick will also have a full preaching, pastoral and leadership role among all three churches.
Two special celebrations at Holy Trinity, Ayr will mark the start of Nick’s ministry and we hope that you will support either or both:
Sunday 12th September 5.30pm – Ordination as a Deacon
This will be a Diocesan occasion and will be lead by the Bishop, The Rt Rev Dr Gregor Duncan. Other clergy from the Diocese will be present as well as lots of Nick and Karen’s friends and family, and also many from their former congregation – St Silas in Glasgow. The Rev David McCarthy, Rector of St Silas, will preach.
The ordination service will be followed by a buffet reception in the hall.
Sunday 19th September 10.30am – South Ayrshire Team Celebration
This will be a more informal service when our three churches will join together to welcome Nick and Karen and to pray for their ministry among us. Nick will be the preacher, and in addition to the choir and organ music, we will have the ‘Broken Chains Praise Band’ as on Pentecost Sunday.
This service will be followed by a buffet lunch in the hall.
Our next meeting with Diocesan Facilitators Anne Tomlinson and Lorraine Darlow will be on Wednesday 15th September in the hall, 6.30pm for tea/coffee with the meeting starting at 7pm. The theme for the evening will be “One More Step”. We hope for another good turnout as we meet to discern the way forward for our congregation.
After eighteen years at the organ Liz Guthrie has retired. During this time Liz has worked with four rectors, three curates, four non-stipendiary priests, and numerous visiting clergy. She not only played for our regular services, but for special occasions, ecumenical services, weddings, funerals – any time we needed an organist Liz was there.
We are now exploring the use of recorded music to accompany the hymns.
We were delighted to welcome Bishop Gregor as Celebrant and Preacher at our morning Sung Eucharist on Sunday 1st August. After the service we had the chance to chat to the Bishop, and enjoy a time of fellowship with each other, having tea/coffee and home-bakes in the hall. We hope it won’t be too long before Bishop Gregor is able to visit us at Maybole again.
Most people are not thinking of Christmas just now, but a group of willing workers certainly are, in beginning to cover and fill the shoeboxes for the Blythswood Appeal.
During August 33 boxes have been completed and we are hoping maybe to double this by the time they go away at the beginning of November.
The knitting group continue their work ( fun!! ) on Tuesday afternoons throughout the year, and most boxes contain hats, scarves etc from their labours. Special thanks are due here as many of our knitters are friends and not from our immediate congregation. If anyone has wool or notices bargains in Charity shops etc. it is welcome at all times of the year.
Items needed at present for the boxes are: gloves for all adults and children, facecloths, shampoo ( max 250ml), shaving foam, toothpaste (we have plenty toothbrushes), notebooks, pencil sharpeners, erasers, small toys: e.g. toy cars, balls, yo-yos, skipping ropes etc, men’s socks.
These can be left in the box at the back of the church at any time.
The feast of St Oswald falls annually on 5th August. This year it was a Thursday so we celebrated our patron saint a few days later on Sunday 8th. We were joined by friends from St John’s, Girvan and Holy Trinity, Ayr for a special Sung Eucharist led by Jeanette. After the service we had a sherry and cake reception in the hall. A special thank you to Ruth Mundell who baked the lovely cake.
On Friday 25th and Saturday 26th June, volunteers will be bag-packing at the tills in Somerfield’s in the High Street to raise funds for Christian Aid. St Oswald’s helpers are required for the Saturday afternoon rota – could you spare and hour ? or perhaps you could come along and do your shopping and help with making a donation.
The Maybole Council of Churches Gala Week open air service was blessed with another beautiful day on Sunday afternoon and was very well attended. This is an annual event to mark the start of Maybole Gala Week and this year’s Gala King and Queen of Carrick, Robert McEwan and Alix Anderson of Cairn Primary school, were presented. Well loved hymns were chosen and introduced by a member of each of the town’s churches and the service was led jointly by the clergy.
Photographs of the service and details of the events during Gala Week can be viewed on the Maybole website.
